The European Audiovisual Observatory is a unique center created in 1992 with the aim to collect and disseminate information on the European audiovisual industry.
The Centre currently has 40 members, besides the European Union, and is partly funded by direct contributions from its members and partly with the profits from the sale of its products and services.
The Centre’s objective is to improve the dissemination of information within the audiovisual industry, to promote a clearer view of the market and a greater transparency. In this regard, the Observatory shall pay particular attention to ensuring reliability, compatibility and comparability of information. For each of these areas, the Observatory provides information on market research and statistics, on the law and the financing of production.
His main interests are: cinema, television, video/DVD and new media.
The Executive Council, composed of representatives of Member States, generally meets twice a year to decide the program of activities and budget. The annual action plan is based on the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, composed of representatives of professional organizations in the European audiovisual sector.
The annual budget is controlled by an independent oversight Committee.
