Commemorazione della Giornata della Memoria (27 gennaio 2026)

Today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, we pay tribute to the victims of the Shoah and honor the survivors, to ensure that the horror of the Holocaust never happens again. Memory is not a formal ritual. It is a collective responsibility towards the future. I thank all our Embassies, Italian Consulates, and Cultural Institutes that today reinforce this message, everywhere in the world, through numerous initiatives. It is our duty to pass on to future generations a world free from the virus of anti-Semitism. As I had the honor to say, when I, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the Government on Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Yad Vashem Museum, no one should ever again be afraid just because they are Jewish. The abyss of the Shoah struck at the heart of our civilization and has forever marked the history and identity of Europe. Remembering is not enough. We must also remain vigilant.

Antisemitism has not disappeared. It is a specter that continues to appear in our societies, in Europe and around the world. Unfortunately, we are reminded of this by cowardly terrorist attacks like the one at Bondi Beach in Australia, which we strongly and unequivocally condemn. But also by many everyday acts of violence and discrimination, even in our cities, even in Europe. Antisemitism is an invisible poison. Today, it spreads mainly online and on social media. What is needed, then, is the antidote of memory, knowledge, and respect. We want to bring it more and more into schools, universities, and our streets. The fight against antisemitism is, for me, a lifelong battle, both politically and personally. There is no place for antisemitism. It is incompatible with our values, our principles, our identity. The Italian government is at the forefront of fighting antisemitic hatred.

A commitment that I carry every day both in Europe and in all international meetings, as a sign of our concrete and relentless action to promote dialogue and peace. Today, together, we say once again, everywhere in the world: never again.
