This is why Ukraine and the accountability for the crimes committed by Russia will be central to our upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coe.int\/en\/web\/portal\/fourth-council-of-europe-summit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government in Reykjavik<\/a> on 16-17 May\u201d, declared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coe.int\/en\/web\/secretary-general\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Secretary General<\/a> Marija Pej\u010dinovi\u0107 Buri\u0107 while addressing the online summit of the leaders of the member states of the Coalition (Core Group) on the creation of a Special Tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Marija Pej\u010dinovi\u0107 Buri\u0107 highlighted the Council of Europe relentless action following a three-pronged approach:<\/p>\n<p>support for the Office of the Prosecutor General in his investigations into war crimes and gross human rights violations;<br \/>\nestablishment of a Register of Damage, a necessary component of a comprehensive compensation mechanism;<br \/>\nsupport for international efforts to set up a special tribunal on the crime of aggression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Council of Europe is and remains mobilised to hold Russia accountable for its crimes and illegal actions.
