27 April, Strasbourg. President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella visited Strasbourg to address the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. In his speech, the President confirmed Italy’s support for the Organisation as a privileged multilateral forum for examining issues relating to the protection of fundamental rights and the rule of law.
The President of the Italian Republic, accompanied by Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, had an exchange of views with the Secretary General, Marija Pejčinović Burić, and with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Tiny Kox.
President Mattarella also met the Italian parliamentary delegation, the Italian officials of the Council of Europe and the staff of the Permanent Representation of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Strasbourg.
