1 April. Culture, creativity and cultural heritage are strategic resources used to shape a diverse and democratic Europe. In this spirit, within the framework of the Italian Presidency semester, the Council of Europe and the Italian Ministry of Culture organized the Ministerial Conference on Culture, held today, Friday 1 April, in Strasbourg and online. The event was preceded by an opening evening on 31 March with a performance by the artist Quayola.

During the Conference, which was opened with introductory speeches by Italian Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić and other high-level representatives, the instrument of ratification of the Nicosia Convention on Crimes Related to Cultural Property was deposited. One of the most significant speeches was that of the Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko, who described how Russian bombs are destroying the country’s cultural heritage and called for an increase in sanctions against Russia.
